Sailing Solo

Over the last 12 years, I have sailed our 30' Newport over 200 times as a single hander.  At first the task was daunting.  Trim, navigate, tack, raise the sails as the boat self steers and hopefully stays into the wind (but not always).  But after learning the ropes (pun intended), I am a very confident single hander.  There is nothing like a sail on the bay with just Kona (dog) and me riding the wind and hanging on the the "Addiction" for an afternoon sail on the windy SF bay.  Here is another perspective on solo sailing with a buddy on another boat sailing with you down the coast.  Click here to read the article.

Kona is amazingly relaxed - you obviously take him out a lot! He is definitely a gorgeous dog and a good sailor.

I started taking him out when he was about 8 weeks old (4 now). He sails once a week with me and we have a ball swimming to the beaches on the bay. He has turned out to be a wonderful sailing companion.
